The Last Witch Hunter is a American fantasy action film directed by Breck Eisner and written by Cory Goodman, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless, and based on the Dungeons & Dragons campaigns of Vin Diesel’s Melkor the Witch-Hunter. The film stars Vin Diesel as an immortal witch hunter who must stop a plague from ravaging the entire world.
The modern world holds many secrets, but by far the most astounding is that witches still live among us; vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world and putting an end to the human race once and for all.
It grossing $147 million while receiving generally unfavorable reviews from critics. A sequel is in development.
Armies of witch hunters have battled this unnatural enemy for centuries, including Kaulder, a valiant warrior who many years ago slayed the all-powerful WITCH QUEEN, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments right before her death, the Queen cursed KAULDER with immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter.
Today, Kaulder is the last living hunter who has spent his immortal life tracking down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost family.
However, unbeknownst to Kaulder, the Witch Queen has been resurrected and seeks revenge on her killer, leading to an epic battle that will determine the survival of mankind.

The Last Witch Hunter 2: Confirmation, Cast & Everything We Know
With all the uncertainty around a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter, it’s understandable why so many have wondered whether The Last Witch Hunter 2 will happen. The original was a fun but forgettable fantasy adventure that suffered from poor reviews, which brings into question the potential for Vin Diesel to return for more. Given Vin Diesel’s long-running success with the Fast & Furious franchise, it’s hard to imagine a time when he was reluctant to make sequels. He passed on both 2 Fast 2 Furious and xXx 2 to work on other projects although it was his return in 2009’s Fast & Furious that boosted his career to a new level.
Diesel has starred in every Fast & Furious entry since, with his most recent Fast X released in May 2023. Diesel also came back for Riddick and 2017’s xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage as part of his career trend as a major blockbuster franchise leading man. The Last Witch Hunter was intended to be another potential movie series for the action star in which he plays an immortal hunter tracking down witches in modern-day New York. However, The Last Witch Hunter suffered a lukewarm box-office release which already put the sequel in doubt. Vin Diesel has shown to be persistent about projects he loves, so The Last Witch Hunter 2 could still happen.

The Last Witch Hunter 2 Is Confirmed As In Development
The Sequel Still May Not Happen
Since the film premiered in 2015, Vin Diesel has been the biggest champion of its sequel, and his latest post regarding The Last Witch Hunter 2 seemingly confirms the movie is in development. While that is exciting news, it doesn’t necessarily mean the movie will ever see the light of day. Movie and TV projects are developed all the time that never get made, and The Last Witch Hunter 2 has a lot of strikes against it. Though Diesel is a bona fide box office draw, sequels are rarely made to movies that flop both critically and commercially.

The Last Witch Hunter 2 Cast
Who Could Return For The Sequel?
The 2015 fantasy action film left off on a positive note, and the bulk of the main cast could return should the sequel ever get made. Considering his cheerleading for The Last Witch Hunter 2, Vin Diesel’s return as Kaulder is almost a certainty. The only way a sequel could succeed would be on the name recognition of Diesel, and his portrayal of the eponymous Witch Hunter was one of the first movie’s only saving graces.
However, other cast members are less certain and have not revealed much regarding their thoughts about the ill-fated movie. Michael Caine’s Dolan 36th and Rose Leslie’s Chloe agreed to team up with Kaulder at the end of the film, and the gang could reunite. Likewise, Julie Engelbrecht’s Witch Queen was teased to still be living when her heartbeat was heard among Kaulder’s weapons.
What The Last Witch Hunter 2’s Story Could Be About
Will The Witch Queen Return?
The Last Witch Hunter 2 could continue to follow the saga of Kaulder while also expanding the fictional universe with the implementation of additional characters and backstory. The biggest question that would need to be answered from the original movie is whether Kaulder would finally become successful in killing the Witch Queen. If this were to happen, he would finally get revenge for the curse that the Witch Queen placed on him in which he was forced to experience the infinite loss of his wife and daughter.
In turn, Kaulder would also be giving up his immortality, since the first Last Witch Hunter movie identified that Kaulder would die if the Queen’s heart stopped beating. TheLast Witch Hunter 2 would have to sort out whether or not Kaulder’s life could be separated from the fate of the Witch’s Queen’s heart, which was last heard as a part of Kaulder’s weapon stash in his apartment at the end of the original movie.
