Who Is Trevor Gutschewski? Meet the 17YO Who Achieved What Charlie Woods Couldn’t

Charlie Woods seems to be having his dreams slip away one by one. First, he failed to grab a spot on the PGA Tour. It was Miles Russell who had the sweet taste of not only making a cut at the Korn Ferry Tour back in April but also making a debut on the American circuit at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last month.

Now, Junior Woods once again saw someone fulfill one of his other wishes; it was 17-year-old Trevor Gutschewski. Charlie Woods was hoping to follow his father’s footprints. Tiger Woods won the US Amateur Open three consecutive times, but alas! The 15-year-old could not even make the cut, scoring a disappointing 10-over. The rising star, Gutschewski, made it to the headlines for his historic win!

The Westside High School senior: Trevor Gutschewski

Trevor Gutschewski was born in 2007 in Omaha, Nebraska. He is the son of 47-year-old PGA Tour pro-Scott Gutschewski and his wife, Amy Gutschewski. Senior Gutschewski started playing on the PGA Tour, turning professional in 1999. While he could not grab a single win so far in his career, his son seems to be doing it for him.

While not much is revealed about his mother, she sure is a huge support in his life. Just like at the US Amateur Open, one could always spot her standing in the spectator zone to cheer her son during and after the tournament. The 17-year-old has three siblings: Luke, Isabelle, and Isaiah.

Golf runs deep in the blood of the Gutschewski family. Trevor Gutschewski’s older brother, Luke, also plays golf. Quality time for the Gutschewski family, of course, includes hitting the greens. The three men—Trevor, Luke, and their father—never miss an opportunity to drive, putt, and chip balls together whenever they can.

He goes to Omaha Westside High School and will soon be entering his senior year of high school. Gutschewski is set to graduate in 2025, and well, he has been doing everything to get into the Korn Ferry Tour just like his father, who won on the tour three times. But how far has he reached in fulfilling his dream?

Trevor Gutschewski’s professional life on the greens so far

Trevor Gutschewski has been playing golf for his school team. It was in 2022 that he started competing in events. He made his debut on the course for the first time at the Nebraska Amateur Championship, where he bagged the 19th position. He then played at the Nebraska Junior Amateur, and it was a banger as he grabbed his first win. The next year, he failed to make much of an impact.

Gutschewski played five events, and he could not make it even to the top-10 in any of the events of his career. His best finish was at the Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship, where he was in the 17th position. But well, 2024 seems to be working out great for him. He first won the Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship and bagged a 12th finish at the Nebraska Amateur Championship.

Trevor Gutschewski moves one step closer to his dreams

Trevor Gutschewski made it to the qualifiers of the US Amateur Open this year. Well, it seems as if he has had the greatest break of his career. He defeated Tyler Watts to earn an exemption to the 2025 US Open at Oakmont.

He won with a short putt on the 33rd hole, rushed to his parents, and celebrated by hugging them right after the win. “It’s really hard to stay in the moment, walking up fairways thinking about playing in the U.S. Open next year,” he said. His victory was declared three holes early, and it was indeed a historic feat.
